Components for Foundation Earth Electrodes

In accordance with the German standard DIN 18014: 2014-03 Fundamenterder – Planung, Ausführung und Dokumentation (Foundation earth electrode - Planning, execution and documentation), foundation earth electrodes have to be connected with the reinforcement of the foundation plate at intervals of metres. Among the various connection possibilities clamping connections have turned out to be the most economic as they can be implemented quickly and easily on site.

Amongst others, reinforcing steels shall also be used as natural components of the down conductor system according to the current lightning protection standards. The table provides an overview of the nominal and outer diameters as well as the cross sections of the reinforcing steels according to DIN EN 10080: 2005 (see Figure 1).
